SECO Energy Mobile Command Centers

Following any major storm in our service area, SECO may deploy mobile command centers to help expedite service restoration. Surviving that period of time when communication channels may be down restoring electric service to our members is of paramount importance. Part of our strategic plan is to set up mobile command centers in the hardest hit areas.

Each of the two mobile command centers are equipped with satellite communications capability, its own AC units and are pretty much self-contained, allowing for 24/7 operations. One of the SECO command centers will place the command center at the location focused on service restoration, while the other serves as a customer service and disaster support center. Our goal is to make the best use of all of our resources in the field following a storm. Deploying and utilizing our new mobile command centers will help shorten the length of storm-related outages while cutting our overall restoration costs.

The SECO mobile command center that focuses on restoration also complements the cooperative’s existing geographic information system. A lot of the supply issues are dictated by GIS, which tells us where every pole is and what’s on that pole giving us the inventory is for each location. This allows personnel to focus on dispatch and interaction with line workers and other personnel. The mobile command centers allow management to give direction to the restoration crews face to face. Following a devastating storm, just having a presence in the neighborhood with the ability to help people on site is a tremendous psychological boost for our members. 2011 SECO Florida Storms Guide
