Developer/Builder Information
SECO Energy partners with developers and builders to provide reliable electric service for new residential subdivisions and construction projects. Our team offers guidance on service installation, easements, and project coordination to help move your development smoothly from planning through completion.
From the earliest planning stages to final energization, SECO Energy works closely with you to ensure your project stays on schedule and meets all electrical service requirements.
Our Project Support Process
SECO Energy collaborates with developers and builders throughout every phase of development:
- Pre-Planning - Early coordination to review project scope and electrical service requirements.
- Design - Engineering and electrical infrastructure design tailored to your development.
- Pre-Construction Meeting - Coordination with project teams before construction begins.
- Construction - Installation of electrical infrastructure and system integration.
- Post-Construction - Final inspections, energization, and project completion.
New Service Process
Follow these steps when requesting new electric service for your development or project:
- Begin: Obtain all applicable permits before submitting a new service request.
- Apply: Contact us and submit your new service application and site plan before construction begins. (Email NewConstruction@SECOEnergy.com)
- Project Creation: SECO Energy will create your account and assign a Project Engineer to manage and coordinate your project.
- Engineering & Design: Your Project Engineer works with you to design the electrical infrastructure, secures required easements and right-of-way utilization permits, confirms site readiness for construction, and serves as your primary point of contact throughout the project.
- Construction & Meter Installation: Once designs are finalized and the site is ready, work is scheduled, completed, inspected by the County & energized.
- Final Step: If applicable, the new homeowner or occupant will contact SECO Energy to establish service in their name.
Underground vs. Overhead Infrastructure
Local development codes often require underground electric infrastructure for new subdivisions. In certain cases, overhead facilities may still be used for individual building sites depending on location and system design.
As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, SECO Energy supports the expansion of underground infrastructure throughout our service area when feasible.
Benefits of Underground Construction:
- Improved electric system reliability
- Faster service restoration following outages
- Reduced long-term maintenance costs
- Enhanced community aesthetics
Partnering With SECO Energy
SECO Energy values strong partnerships with builders and developers. By working together early in the process, we can ensure safe, efficient, and timely delivery of electric service to your project.
