SECO Energy is providing mutual aid support to electric cooperatives and utilities impacted by Hurricane Isaias, including Escambia River Electric Cooperative (EREC) and Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative (CHELCO).
SECO Energy deployed an 11-person line construction crew and two damage assessors to CHELCO to assist with outage assessment and power restoration efforts, arriving at CHELCO late Saturday evening.
SECO Energy is also deploying one warehouse employee to EREC to assist with materials, logistics and field support needs. The employee is expected to arrive at EREC late Sunday morning.
In addition, SECO Energy released four Pike crews, one Xylem right-of-way team and three Wright Tree Service right-of-way teams to support storm restoration efforts for impacted cooperatives and utilities. Collectively, the released contract crews represent approximately 80 to 85 full-time equivalent resources.
“Mutual aid is at the heart of the electric cooperative model. When storms impact our fellow Florida cooperatives, we answer the call while ensuring SECO Energy remains ready to serve our own members,” said Curtis Wynn, SECO Energy Chief Executive Officer. “We are proud of the employees and contract partners representing SECO Energy with skill and care as they help restore power to communities impacted by Hurricane Isaias.”
“SECO Energy remains prepared to respond to our own system needs while also supporting Florida cooperatives impacted by Hurricane Isaias,” said Ben Dawson, SECO Energy Chief Operating Officer. “Our crews and contract partners are trained for storm response, and mutual aid allows us to put those skills to work where help is needed most.”
SECO Energy will continue to monitor storm restoration assignments and provide additional support as needed.
