SECO Energy Celebrates Eastern Operations Center Facility

SECO Energy officially broke ground October 20 on the future site of its new Eastern Operations Center facility in Groveland, Florida. This event marked another historic milestone for the electric cooperative, which has served Central Florida for nearly 90 years, and reaffirmed SECO Energy’s commitment to investing in the communities it serves.

Elected officials, community and business leaders, SECO Energy’s Board of Trustees and executive team, and employees gathered to celebrate the beginning of construction. The facility is expected to be completed in 2027.

The Eastern Operations Center will strengthen SECO Energy’s ability to meet the growing needs of its more than 270,000 members throughout Lake County and surrounding communities. As the region continues to experience significant growth, the new facility will expand SECO Energy’s operational capacity and support the delivery of reliable, innovative service.

“Thank you to the elected officials, community leaders, business partners, and employees who joined us in celebrating this pivotal moment," said SECO Energy Curtis Wynn. “As SECO Energy’s membership and the communities we serve continue to grow, the demands on our operations, equipment and workforce have grown as well. Our existing facilities have served us well for many years, but their age and limited space make it increasingly difficult to accommodate the equipment, technology and resources needed to support our expanding system. The Eastern Operations Center will provide the additional capacity, modern workspaces and operational support necessary to grow with the communities we serve.”

Wynn added, "The Eastern Operations Center is an important part of SECO Energy’s long-term plan to expand our capacity, strengthen system reliability and meet the evolving needs of our members. Projects like this are built for the people and communities we serve. This investment will support operational excellence, improve reliability and position SECO Energy for continued growth."

The new facility is designed to improve coordination, enhance crew deployment, and support timely responses to member and community needs. Its modern, functional design will provide safe and efficient work areas while supporting SECO Energy’s continued focus on reliability, safety and exceptional member service.

“The Board of Trustees has a responsibility to make thoughtful, forward-looking investments that protect the cooperative’s long-term strength and ensure we are prepared to meet the needs of our members,” said Gerald Anderson, President of SECO Energy’s Board of Trustees during the ceremony. “The Eastern Operations Center reflects the Board’s commitment to supporting responsible growth, strengthening system reliability and providing our employees with safe, efficient facilities that support their important work. This investment helps ensure SECO Energy is well-positioned to serve our members and communities for generations to come.”

Guest speakers included Lake County Commission Chairman Leslie Campione, City of Groveland Mayor Keith Keogh and South Lake Chamber Board Chairman Donna Kirtland.
