Common Terms:

  • Energy - Tier I: This is the first 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity used during the billing cycle. This energy is charged at the Tier I rate.
  • Energy - Tier II: This is any electricity used above 1,000 kWh during the billing cycle. Only the energy usage above 1,000 kWh is charged at the higher Tier II rate.
  • Daily Maintenance Fee: A recurring charge that helps cover the costs of maintaining the electric system and providing electric service to all members. It applies regardless of how much electricity you use.
  • Hot Bucks – PCA: The Power Cost Adjustment (PCA), commonly called “Hot Bucks,” reflects changes in the cost of purchasing and supplying electricity. This adjustment may increase or decrease depending on power supply costs and is separate from the base energy rate.
  • Kilowatt hour (kWh): A kilowatt-hour is a unit of measurement for electricity consumption. For example, an appliance that uses 1,000 watts of power to operate for one hour consumes 1 kWh of electricity. Your total electricity use during the billing cycle is one of the main factors that affect your energy charges.
  • Florida Utility Tax: A 2.5% Florida state tax applied to the electricity delivered to you and collected on your bill. SECO Energy sends this tax to the State of Florida; it is not revenue kept by SECO Energy.
  • Rate Schedule: Explains the rates and charges that apply to your electric service, such as the daily maintenance fee and the cost of the electricity you use. Your rate schedule is based on factors such as your type of service and how much electricity you use.
  • Franchise Fees: Charges collected by SECO Energy from members that are paid to the local city or county for the right to provide electric service in that community. These fees are not revenue kept by SECO Energy.
