What are some of the enhanced capabilities of AMI meters?

A fully-developed AMI system allows members to review their energy usage in almost real-time. SECO can transfer, reconnect/disconnect, and troubleshoot the service remotely. When an AMI system is deployed for all members, you can choose your billing date, set usage threshold alerts, have access to money-saving dynamic rates and much more.

Is the AMI meter safe?

Yes. The AMI meter uses an industry standard cellular communications system, just like your cell phone. The components of the meter and communication module are UL (Underwriter Laboratories) certified.

Will SECO Energy install a solar array on my home or business?

SECO is a partner for members who choose to invest their hard-earned dollars to purchase a solar system to reduce their utility-supplied power. That said, SECO is not a solar array manufacturer nor are we a solar installer.

For members who choose to invest in a solar array, we have a wealth of solar information on the Solar Power section on our website. Find out if solar is the right fit for your home, learn more about solar panels and inverters and view insurance requirements. View a sample bill for an interconnected solar member and review SECO’s net metering policy. We’ve also included links to help you choose a solar contractor, understand the timeline to interconnection, read FAQs and more.

SECO Energy also offers members an in-home solar assessment to help determine their home’s conduciveness to solar. An Energy Services Specialist will visit your home, review your consumption to help size your potential system and answer questions you may have about solar.

Will my heirs receive my allocated Capital Credits?

Yes, for individual memberships the heir of the member of record is able to collect on all applicable Capital Credits at a discounted lump sum; however, for a joint membership, this is not an option. The (shared) Capital Credits will remain with the surviving joint member. The account will be transferred into the survivor’s name as an individual membership, and he/she will receive Board-approved Capital Credits annually in his/her name.

Will I receive my allocated Capital Credits after disconnecting service?

If you move from our service area, the allocated Capital Credits on your account will remain in your name. Capital Credits are typically retired (paid) annually with Board of Trustee approval. Once your retirement amount exceeds $10, SECO will mail a check to the current mailing address on file. Please provide SECO with your most current mailing (forwarding) address when disconnecting service so that your final bill, your deposit (when applicable) and future Capital Credits can be forwarded to you.

How do I disconnect electric service?

Contact Member Services to request disconnection at (352) 793-3801 or customerservice@secoenergy.com. Most email inquiries are answered within two business days. SECO requires advance notice of one business day for service disconnection. Only the member of record may disconnect service. For members on Auto-Pay bank draft, the final bill as well as any other bill with a due date occurring after the disconnection date will not automatically draft. Expect to arrange an alternate method of payment.
