SECO Energy Trustee Mike Muffett Earns Director Gold Credential

SECO Energy Board of Trustees District 6 Trustee Mike Muffett has successfully completed the requirements to earn the Director Gold Credential (DGS) from the National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (NRECA).

 

According to the NRECA, the DGC recognizes directors/trustees who desire a tangible credential that demonstrates their ongoing commitment to advancing their knowledge and performing their fiduciary duty to the best of their ability. The DGC offers a continuing education path for directors/trustees beyond the Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) and Board Leadership Certificate (BLC).

 

SECO Energy is a not-for-profit electric cooperative operated for and owned by its members. SECO’s nine-member Board of Trustees consists of members who live in SECO’s service area. Trustees are elected to oversee the governance of the cooperative. Each Trustee on SECO Energy’s Board is elected by the members who reside in his/her District. Collectively, the Trustees are responsible for establishing, reviewing and revising corporate policies to ensure that SECO continues to preserve reliable, affordable service for all members.

 

Trustee Muffett resides in Summerfield and has been a SECO Energy member since 1984. Mr. Muffett was elected to the SECO Energy Board of Trustees in 2020.

 

Trustee Muffett stated, “I am grateful for the education path provided by the NRECA to increase my knowledge of electric cooperatives and the not-for-profit business model. Serving the members who reside in District 6 and the SECO membership as a whole is an honor. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our local communities through my work on SECO’s Board.”

 

CEO Curtis Wynn extended his congratulations to Trustee Muffett stating, “Congratulations, Mr. Muffett, on achieving the NRECA’s Director Gold Credential. SECO Energy Trustee Joyce Anderson Earns Director Gold Credential

SECO Energy congratulates Board of Trustees Secretary/Treasurer and District 2 Trustee Joyce Anderson on her successful completion of the National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association’s (NRECA) Director Gold Credential (DGC). The DGC offers a continuing education path for directors/trustees beyond the Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) and Board Leadership Certificate (BLC).

Trustee Anderson resides in Sumterville and was first elected to the SECO Energy Board of Trustees in February 2020. Ms. Anderson currently serves as the Board of Trustees Secretary/Treasurer and has been a SECO member since 2017.

 

Trustee Anderson stated, “Completing the Director Gold Credential from the NRECA is an educational accomplishment that I am proud to hold. The NRECA’s Director/Trustee coursework has helped me carry out my role on the SECO Energy Board of Trustees. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve my fellow SECO Energy members and my fellow District 2 members and the membership at large through my Board service.”

SECO Energy CEO Curtis Wynn Honored with Clyde T. Ellis Award from the NRECA

SECO Energy CEO Curtis Wynn has been honored with the Clyde T. Ellis Award at this year’s PowerXchange in Nashville, Tennessee. PowerXchange is the National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association’s (NRECA) annual meeting.

 

The Clyde T. Ellis Award is the preeminent electric cooperative award. According to the NRECA, the Clyde T. Ellis Award pays tribute to the NRECA’s first general manager/CEO. NRECA’s Board of Directors awards individuals whose contributions promote the seven cooperative principles and progress rural electrification while developing and using national resources.

 

CEO Curtis Wynn is a 40-year energy-industry veteran. He joined SECO Energy on December 15, 2021. Previously, Mr. Wynn served as President and CEO of Roanoke Electric Cooperative beginning in 1997. He began his career at West Florida Electric Cooperative in 1981. His tenure culminated there as Vice President of Member Services, Information Technology, Marketing and Economic Development. Mr. Wynn holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Management Information Systems from Troy University.

 

Mr. Wynn is honored to receive the Clyde T. Ellis Award from the NRECA. Wynn stated, “I want to express my thanks to the NRECA Board of Directors for honoring me with this year’s Clyde T. Ellis Award for exceptional cooperative service. I am truly humbled to receive one of our electric cooperative communities’ highest honors. This honor ranks as among the highest that I’ve had in my years of service.”

 

Wynn continued, “To be recognized by peers to be deserving of this award is a highlight of my tenure in the cooperative program. To be presented with the award in front of so many cooperators just puts the icing on the cake.”

SECO Energy Trustee Morgan Hatfield Earns Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate

SECO Energy’s Board of Trustees District 9 Trustee Morgan Hatfield has earned her Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) Certificate from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). Achieving the CCD certificate is the initial step in the NRECA’s Director Education Program.

 

According to the NRECA, directors/trustees seeking the CCD certification must complete five courses that focus on basic cooperative governance and the essential skills needed for cooperative directors/trustees. The CCD prepares directors/trustees to fulfill their fiduciary duty as elected officials serving on behalf of their membership. Upon completion of the five CCD required courses, directors/trustees are awarded the Credential Cooperative Director Certificate.

Trustee Hatfield is proud of her accomplishment in earning the Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate through the NRECA. It’s an honor to serve as the District 9 representative on SECO Energy’s Board of Trustees, and I look forward to continuing my Board education through the NRECA.”

District 3 SECO Energy Members Elect New Trustee

On Monday, May 13, members who attended SECO Energy’s District 3 Special Meeting voted to elect Gerald B. Anderson to represent their District and the members at large on SECO Energy’s Board of Trustees. The Special Meeting to elect a new District 3 was held to fill the vacant Board seat. Mr. Anderson will serve the remainder of the term that ends in early 2022.

 

A SECO member for nearly five years, Mr. Anderson served in the Marine Corps and worked for a utilities manufacturing company. Mr. Anderson served as president of his hometown volunteer Fire Department, was elected to four six-year terms on the Board of Supervisors of Warrington, Pennsylvania and after retiring he was appointed as Director of Operations for Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Jane, enjoy making friends through their work with the Belle Aire Social Club in which Mr. Anderson serves as President and Mrs. Anderson serves as Secretary.

Collectively, the Board represents the SECO membership, meeting monthly to monitor the financial status of the cooperative while providing fiduciary oversight and participating in policy decisions that serve the best interests of the members at large.

 

Members in District 3 gathered at The Villages’ Savannah Center for the election and to hear a short update on the status of the cooperative. In total, eight members residing in District 3 submitted a letter of intent to run. In addition to new District 3 Trustee Gerald B. Anderson, the candidates who expressed their willingness to represent the members of District 3 were: Stephen M. Doran, Paul G. Embs, Barry R. Evans, Gary L. Jackson, Bryan T. Lifsey, Aileen M. Milton and Albert D. Uhryniak.

 

Mr. Anderson is eager to begin his duties as the new District 3 Trustee stating, “Thank you District 3 members for trusting me to represent you on the SECO Energy Board of Trustees. My previous experience in the utility industry will allow me to readily fulfill my new role in cooperative governance.”

 

Board President and District 9 Trustee Jerry Hatfield stated, “Congratulations, Mr. Anderson, on your election as District 3 Trustee. On behalf of myself and the Board, I am excited to welcome Mr. Anderson as our newest Board member.”
